Did you know 1 out of 10 dogs born will find a permanent home? There are thousands of lost/homeless pets that are in need of a safe home. Animal shelters carry a lot of the weight trying to ensure a comfortable living for these pets. As an animal lover, take a moment to help animal shelters with their fight for animal living and safety.

Here’s what you can do to help animal shelters:
Sponsor a Pet
Make a Donation
Host a Fundraiser
Volunteer Your Time
Assist with Adoption Events
Take Care of a Lost Pet
If you find a lost pet,
Check if the animal has a tag. If there is a phone number, call and notify them that their dog is with you.
If there is no tag and you want to alleviate the amount of pets at the shelter, make sure your home is suited to house the stray pet. However, if you must take them to the shelter, locate the nearest location to where the animal was found.
Find the owner
Legally, a stray animal must be dropped off at a shelter for a minimum holding period of five days. Help the shelters by searching for the pet’s owner. Try placing ads, flyers, social media posts, etc.
Want to take the pet with you?
To keep in touch with the stray pet, get the impound number from the shelter and track it through the shelter system. In 5 working days, the pet will be placed for adoption if their owner does not show up.
Did you know you can place “First Rights” on the pet so that you can adopt them if they are not claimed by their owner? Be at the shelter first thing in the morning the day the animal is available for adoption.
Some animal shelters are safe places for pets, but it is not a long time home. Do what you can to help out the animal shelters so that every pet feels as if they are loved and cared for.
Hope this helps, from the Fire Hydrant Team!
